Lady Saints gets a big win over Montclair State

Flagler College Women’s Soccer got their second win of the season Oct. 7, over 8-2-1 NCAA Div. III powerhouse, Montclair State (N.J.) at Arrgio Field at Northwood University.

Sophomore mid-fielder Megan Bundrick came out firing getting her first goal of the year and putting the Lady Saints on the score board in the third minute of the match on an unassisted goal. Montclair fought back as Megan Brown scored the equalizer for the Red Hawks in the 33rd minute off of a feed from Natalia Sisti and Kelly Dutko.

The Lady Saints were not going to be denied, as sophomore mid-fielder Caitlin Eggimann scored her first goal of the season, hammering home the go ahead goal off a feed from freshman forward Ashlyn McGregor. The Lady Saints had the game in hand when the freshman forward Tiffany Urquhart knocked home her fifth goal of the season in the 80th minute, off a pass from sophomore Pam Quimby to seal the victory for the Lady Saints.

Coach Teddy Meyer spoke after the game about how proud he was of the effort the Lady Saints gave against Montclair State.

“This win means a lot going into our next game. I am very proud of the girls,” he said. “There were a lot of girls that stepped up individually in this game. We did not all play great, but we all played well enough to pick each other up and get the win.”

The next game for the Lady Saints is another up hill battle on Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. They welcome in offensive guru Kristine Pedersen and NAIA No. 1 the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders (11-2).

“You don’t always get a chance to play the number one team in the nation in your college career. I really think the girls grasp that and will get up for that game, because realistically we have nothing to lose and they have everything to lose,” Meyer said.
