Flagler College Principles of Marketing class, lead by Dr. Cindy Rippé, is taking on a project to help the island of Dominica. Dominica was destroyed by Hurricane Maria on September 19. Because of the late notice and small island, residents of the island didn’t have time to evacuate and have been left with a devastated home island.
Watch the below video for information on the project:
When Nick Cuffy, a native of Dominica, told Rippé of the tragedy in Dominica, she knew she had to do something to help – and teach her class valuable marketing lessons while doing it.
The class has been working tirelessly to promote this event and cause around campus. Through presentations to classes, clubs, and local businesses, the class has raised around 803 cans so far. But it’s not over yet.
On November 3, the class is putting on a canned food sculpture contest to raise more canned goods for Dominica. There are currently five spots left for the competition and anyone who wants to help out is invited to participate. The event will be ongoing in the Virginia Room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 3.
For the event, organizers suggest teams five and at least 50 cans to complete a sculpture. The more cans, the better the sculpture and the more you are helping Dominica.
