SGA announcements

Student Government Association meets every Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. in the Koger-Gamache Theater. Students are encouraged to participate and gain voting rights after attending three consecutive meetings. Except for next Tuesday when it will be cancelled due to Spring Blink.

– Director of Network and Desktop Services, Brendan Hourihan, wants to lessen the burden on the wireless network here on campus.  He wants everyone on campus to let him know if they ever experience any issues with their wireless connection and that every room has it’s own wired connection that allows for a faster connection.  Posters of how to get in contact with IT have been placed around campus and his office is located in the Proctor Library room 360.

Club Grants:
SGA approved the following grants:
– Photo Club grant for wildlife and ecosystem kayaking trip to Marineland.

The following grants have been tabled until the next meeting:

-English Honors Society Dinner and Conversations funding

Student Liaison David Arreola spoke on the change to the Academic Honesty policy.  Traditionally, Deans have final say, in terms of consequences, after a hearing in front of a committee.  After deciding the rules dealing with Academic Dishonesty were too vague,  the committee is now the final decider.  

Mary Hicox of the Theatre Arts department spoke on behalf of the musical spring production Kiss Me Kate, which is on it’s closing weekend.  Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the box office outside of the auditorium.

Committee Reports:
– Academics announced that beginning next semester, students will now be able to Add or Drop classes online.  The Academics committee meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. in the SGA office room 251 in the student center.
– Campus Concerns announced an extension to pool hours.  The pool is now open from 8 am to 8 pm.  The committee also announced upcoming repairs to the dirt lot behind Lewis, which will begin during spring break.  Campus Concerns meets in Jay’s Place at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays.
– Community Services needs volunteers for an on-campus scavenger hunt on April 6. Those interested should contact the head of community services committee.  Bike pump kits have been approved and will be placed around campus for the convenience of students.
– Food Services announced plans for an extension to the popular weekend fruit platter. It will now be served throughout the week.  The cups in the dining hall have reached their final size and will stop shrinking, and a chocolate fountain may be on its way.
– Green committee will be running the Love your Planet event this Thursday.  Bike valets will be on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and volunteers are needed. Recycling bins and tote bags are in the works.

– Publicity announced that they will be giving away lanyards.  Also, any clubs that need posters should come in contact with the publicity committee.
– Spirit will be raffling off twelve tickets to Kiss Me Kate during the Name the Mascot event today on the West Lawn.

Executive Reports:
– Next weeks meeting will be cancelled due to Spring Break.

– Students are encouraged to fill out President Abare’s survey. Students are encouraged to stay on top of their emails.

General Announcements:

– This Saturday is the Renaissance Fair in the student center

– This Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Flagler Room, a Civil Rights Foot Soldier will be speaking.
