Baseball team turns season around after losing streak

At one point this season, Flagler’s baseball team had been 3-10. But after a strong turnaround, the Saints have since posted a 10-1 record for the past 11 games.

“We’re better than how our record projected in the beginning,” second basemen Steve Simmons said. “We played defending national champions, and the runner-up. Five of the losses in beginning of the season were to those teams.”

Still, having gone through a losing streak, Simmons explained the pressure to “get that monkey off your back.” Pressing for everything to be just right, the team was running into the same wall.

On Feb. 27, a turning point came in a road game against Nova Southeastern, a team in the Sunshine State Conference, Flagler bounced back from five runs down early in the game to 10-6. The team scored seven runs in one inning.
