At halfway mark, Saints surpass record from a year ago

The Flagler women’s soccer team is coming off a 3-13-1 season, which some would like to forget.

Head coach Teddy Meyer has an older and more experienced roster this season providing a more well-rounded team.

With only 15 goals scored last season by the Saints the key to success this year is offensive output.

The team started the season with three straight victories, each one proving that the Saints were going to have a productive season.

After three wins to open the season the team suffered three losses in a row, two of which were at home.

One bright spot of the first half of the season has been freshman standout Annika Hogberg.

Hogberg has shown unmatched offensive firepower and has been the spark on offense the Saints were missing a year ago.

Hope McArthur, of Venice, Fla., has been an integral part of Flagler’s success with four shutouts already this season.

With a strong core of returning players and a potent batch of freshmen players, the Saints look to make a big splash this season.

One of the most impressive wins this season for the team came against Lees-McRae on Sept. 16. The Saints tallied an outstanding 9-0 win against the opponent.

Nine goals is the most in a game by Flagler since a 2003, 11-0 victory over North Greenville College.

With some very positive wins early in the season, the Saints seem to be on the right track.

The team has already won more games than last season, which bodes well for the remainder of the grueling season.
