Player Profile: Melanie Aguila

For the last few years, the Flagler women’s team has been searching for a point guard.
They seem to have found one in Melanie Aguila, one of the fastest up and coming female athletes at Flagler College.

As a junior transfer this year from Palm Beach Atlantic University, Aguila has earned the starting point guard job for the women’s basketball team.

Aguila is originally from Puerto Rico and started playing basketball at the age of four. At 13, she and her family moved to Orlando where she attended a private school that helped her to further enhance her basketball skills.

“Melanie brings a very calming influence to the team,” head coach Sherri Abbey-Nowatzki. “Her ability to shoot the three pointer also shows her presence on the court.”

Aguila made the decision to transfer to Flagler just two weeks before the start of the fall semester.

“I was looking for a change”, she said. She added that the Lady Saints made the most sense.
“Melanie brings a lot of energy to the game and is a leader on and off the court,” teammate Allison Oates said.

Aguila is currently averaging 7.6 points per game and leads the team in three- point field goal percentage (.329), assists with 65 and steals with 41.
