Loren Cate and Lindsay Zullo look to get the women’s soccer team back on track

The Flagler College women’s soccer team started off their season with an impressive 6-2 record behind the stellar play of juniors Lindsay Zullo and Loren Cate. Now the great play of Zullo has helped her achieve her first Peach Belt Conference offensive player of the week honors.

“I felt honored to be chosen since there are a lot of really good players in our conference,” she said.

Zullo has scored six goals this season, which is the second most on the team behind Loren Cate. “Lindsay is a special player and a different type of player,” said head coach Teddy Meyer.

Cate has scored eight goals this season which ties her career high in a season. “Loren is a pure goal scorer, she has made some fantastic goals this season,” he said.

Since the great start of the season, the Saints have stumbled, losing four consecutive games.

“This stretch of the last four games probably has been the toughest four games in a row in the country,” Meyer said. “We were 6-2, flying high, and then all of a sudden we get leveled with a losing streak.”

All four loses have come against teams with winning records, with two of those teams being ranked in the NCAA Div. II Top 25. The Saints know that with their talent that they can bounce back and turn their season around.

Meyer believes that the team will keep pushing and that the goals will come. “We just got to punch a few goals in. They will come. Everyone has been playing well, but we just have not been finishing.”

The Saints will have another tough test Oct. 12 when they will face the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic, who are the No. 1 ranked team in the Peach Belt Conference. The Saints feel that this will be one of their biggest games of the season.

“Last year we walked away from the game against Armstrong feeling like we should have beat or tied them. I am really looking forward to playing them,” said Cate.

Meyer believes that the game against Armstrong Atlantic will be a good measuring stick for the Saints. “Were a great team. The teams we have lost to are all pretty good teams. Our goal is to be in the conference final four and get in the regionals,” he said. Photo by {Dyann Busse}
