The glitz, the glam, the sparkles and the funk of Tarino Tarantino made a stunning scene at Rochelle’s Trunk show on Saturday, March 28.
Rochelle’s fashion boutique has been one of St. Augustine’s fashion hot spots since the 80s. The store held a trunk show to showcase the famous Tarino Tarantino’s new jewelry collection inspired by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
“We hold these trunk shows twice a year,” said owner Tom Rochelle. “I think they are a hot because everyone can wear Tarantino accessories. During Christmas time we do another trunk show, we try to hold them at least twice a year, usually featuring Tarantino’s new lines.”
The store was packed with teens, adults and even the elderly on Saturday. Tables were lined with the new Tarantino necklaces and earrings that shined with vibrant pink, purple and orange sparkles. The jewelry featured Alice and Wonderland characters including Alice, the rabbit, the queen and mushrooms.
A life size, glass horse sat on display with Tarantino bag candy dangling from its side. Any customer who bought a Tarantino piece would walk away with a complementary bag candy of their choice. The most popular pick for the day was the one featuring Alice holding a pig, which is a significant reference to Dodgson’s book.
“It’s like I get blinded by all of the sparkles in the jewelry,” said Flagler College senior Desi Pappas. “I am in love with the Alice necklaces, very unique. I just might have to splurge.”
During the event the owners handed out complimentary champagne and pink cupcakes. Ladies filled the upstairs and downstairs of the store, socializing and awing over the new collections.
“Tarantino’s main market is high school through college, but she has dozens of lines,” said Shannon Rose Greene, Rochelle employee and Flagler student. “The designer is currently doing a new Barbie line, and has partnered up with Sephora, a make-up store.”
