Be a part of the second annual Flagler 5k

The Flagler College women’s cross country team is hosting the second annual Flagler 5K on April 3.

The race is sponsored by Vicar’s Landing and Glenmoor. Proceeds of the race will go to the women’s cross country team with a 10 percent donation to the Betty Griffin House for abused women.

Participants may run or walk the race. “We encourage walkers to participate,” said Christy Castelli, coach of the women’s cross-country team.

The Flagler 5K is a 3.1 mile road race through scenic Anastasia State Park starting at 8 a.m.

“Even if you don’t want to run, it is a beautiful course to walk and goes toward a good cause,” said Nathaniel Hill, Flagler student and member of the men’s cross country team.

The course has two out-and-back loops. One of the loops runs down the main road and the other by the road leading to the campsites. Much of the course is shaded.

After the race, all participants may rejoin for water, bagels, oranges and donuts. Several drawings will take place, including a free car detail and gift certificates to local restaurants and shops. There will be an over-all male and female winner and an over-all masters (over 40 years of age) male and female winner. Medals will be given to the first, second and third place winners in each group.

Entry fees are $10 for Flagler College students and staff, $15 for Ancient City Road Runner (ACRR) members and $20 for all others who register before April 2. Online registration is available for $20 on Active.com. Participants may also register the day of the race for $25.

On April 2, participants may pick up their package at the Flagler College Gymnasium on Granada Street from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or on race day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. All participants will receive a race t-shirt. In order to ensure participants the size t-shirt they request, it is encouraged to sign up early, said Castelli.

“This is our second year of hosting this event. It is our main fundraiser for the year,” said Castelli.

Come out and start your Saturday off right!
