Flagler student scores Bo-Sox internship

By Will Sandberg

Picking up a giant green monster from the airport isn’t on the to-do-list for most interns, but for Jack Ryan, it’s just another day with the Boston Red Sox.

Ryan found out about the job in late August from his friend Mike Chasanoff. After a series of phone calls, E-mails and interviews, Ryan was hired as a stadium operations intern. His job includes making sure everything runs smoothly around the stadium, setting up the clubhouse and helping out at events.

Ryan gets to interact with a lot of minor league players and prospects. He hands them their meal money and even gets to help out at batting practice.

“It’s a great time, an awesome learning experience.” Ryan said. “All the players are normal and just like everybody else, except that they play baseball.”

In early February, Ryan picked up Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster from the airport, took him to a fund raising event, and even got to try on the mascot’s head.
