Respect where respect is due

PHOTO CAPTION: Just a little bit offshore. Winter in New Jersey.

Thirty degree water. Twenty-five degree air. Twenty mph offshore winds. Double overhead and tossing. Sounds perfect. Conditions like these are not out of the norm in a northeast winter. Winter up north is where a northeast surfer is tried and tested – great waves, freezing conditions, vacant lineups, and 6 mm of rubber from head to toe. But the winter is not the only time the north gets first-rate waves. Hurricanes provide their share as well. Fall is probably one of the best seasons on the east coast, and this fall has been no exception for the north. While a few hurricanes have passed the south by this fall, the north has benefited from this. In the past the northeast hasn’t always been among the top ranks in mainland U.S., but that is beginning to change.

The reality of reality television is that it constitutes a major portion of television programming today. There are more than 200 reality television shows spanning several channels, including the major networks. The topics on which reality television shows can be based on are virtually endless.

Two students put their life ‘on the line’

PHOTO CAPTION: Flagler baseball players and volleyball line judges Glenn Kiture and Brett Cooper discuss the ongoing volleyball match between points. Both Kiture and Cooper are Sport Management majors at Flagler. They volunteer as line judges and Kiture says there is no pro Flagler bias.

It has been a really close game with the scored tied. Embry-Riddle sets the ball, and the middle blocker attacks. The ball lands on the line. What is the call? In or out? It all comes down to Flagler athlete, Glenn Kiture, line judge for the Flagler volleyball team.

Kiture’s line judging career started as a favor to a friend, and it turned out to be something he enjoyed and has continued.

“The first match was difficult for me because I was nervous, but now I got the hang of things,” he said.

Offensive article in last issue of The Gargoyle

Letter to the Editor

By Annie Schneiderman

I was surprised to notice that after the revision to the paper, Eric Waldron’s article remained unchanged.

Although his headline states “Even abroad, life is always full of quirks,” he relied on hurtful, ignorant stereotypes and clichés instead of saying anything quirky or positive about other cultures.

Baseball on demand…sort of

PHOTO CAPTION: The Lady Saints fell to Palm Beach Atlantic and Lynn University over the weekend. Head Coach Taylor Mott attributes the loss to the team’s lack of mental toughness. “When we’re losing these five-game matches it is because mentally we’re not tough enough,” she said.

The Flagler Volleyball team entered last weekend facing a test and their performance left much room for improvement.

Coming off two easy wins during the week, the Lady Saints hosted Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday. The match up featured two teams that hope to soon be a part of the NCAA Div. II Sunshine State Conference.

Volleyball dispatches ex-conference foes with ease

Last week Flagler Volleyball proved one of the reasons that made the move to NCAA Div. II a no brainer. They have moved a step above the competition in the Florida Sun Conference.

The Lady Saints entered action on Sept. 26 with a record of 13-5 facing rival Embry-Riddle. Flagler handled Riddle top to bottom and the victory was never in doubt as a sweep came with relative ease. The series between the Lady Saints and the Eagles seems to have lost its past luster as Riddle struggles to keep its head above water this season at 10-11.
