The Flagler College Women’s Tennis team has surged to a 6-2 record to open the 2011 season.

The Lady Saints’ impressive start includes a 5-1 record in conference play, recording victories over formidable Peach Belt foes like Clayton State.

Veronica Figueroa and Rachel Gould have been tremendous in singles play, each posting a record of 6-2, while Lauren Pfeiffer and Nachell Proctor have worked well together, attaining a 5-3 record in doubles matches.

The team feels that its early success is a product of hard work and is indicative of things to come.

“I think our season is going great so far,” said senior Deon Miller. “We are all going out to our matches prepared to give it our all and it’s paying off right now. I think we’re just going to continue to knock off the top teams.”

The team will try to build off of its recent successes as it heads into the final stretch of the season. The stretch contains matches against six conference opponents, including No. 13 Francis Marion on March 26th.

The Peach Belt Conference Tournament starts on April 15th in Augusta, GA.
