The women’s basketball team has signed a key high school standout to play for the women’s team in the 2009-10 season.
Rachel Brown, a center from Clearwater High School, has earned a spot on the Flagler roster based on her excellent play over the past four seasons at Clearwater High under coach Tom Shaneyfelt.
What Flagler hopes to gain from the signing is size and an interior presence which the team has sorely missed in their first full season of NCAA II play.
Brown fits the bill: In her senior season she’s averaged 3.0 blocks and 9.0 rebounds a game, which has been enough to earn her some attention from her future coach, Sherri Abbey-Nowatski.
