DJ Ferguson started playing basketball when he was four years old.

“When I was little I used to watch my dad play basketball with friends at the YMCA. Watching him encouraged me to have a major interest in the sport. He’s the reason why I’m still playing today,” said Ferguson. Since the beginning of Ferguson’s freshman year, his dad has never missed a home game.
Ferguson grew up in Orlando and attended Bishop Moore High School. He played varsity basketball his sophomore, junior and senior year.

Ferguson was spotted by Flagler recruiters at the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Disney Showcase. The assistant coach of Flagler College was scouting basketball players at the tournament.

Flagler was the first school Ferguson committed to. Other colleges such as University of Central Florida in Orlando and James Madison University of Virginia also offered athletic scholarships, but he was set on Flagler.

Ferguson is currently a sophomore and is majoring in business. After graduation he hopes to play basketball overseas in Europe.

“I used to come to St. Augustine when I was younger, but I never thought that I would be going to school here, much less playing basketball. I’m glad I chose to play for the Saints.”
