San Sebastian’s Jazz Bar offers a little something different

By Emilie Pembroke

Looking for a place to kick back and relax over the weekend? The San Sebastian Winery Jazz Bar is just the place.

At the Jazz Bar located at 157 King St., one can listen to jazz while sitting on the rooftop taking in the sights of St. Augustine. The Wine and Jazz Bar is open Fridays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at noon. Live music is played from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

You can purchase a variety of appetizers to go along with a diverse selection of drinks. The appetizers, such as chips and salsa or meat and cheese platters, are simple, yet good.

There is plenty of seating and a covered area if it rains. The view from the main deck is breathtaking, overlooking the San Sebastian River and downtown St. Augustine. You can see the entire city from the roof. Floor heaters have been installed that will keep you warm on a cold night. The Jazz Bar brings in a good crowd on the weekend and, on any Friday or Saturday night, seating is limited. The dance floor, which is always occupied, is never too crowded and is open to all.

The thing that is really nice about the Jazz Bar is that you can make it a classy or a casual night. One can go dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, or wear a suit or dress and still fit in. The spot attracts an equal amount of locals and tourists.

Although it’s called a jazz bar, other genres of music are also played. The music adds a peaceful and relaxing touch to the experience.

The Jazz Bar is a different way to spend an evening than anything else St. Augustine has to offer. Every experience I have had there has been a pleasant one.

The service is wonderful and the ambiance is energetic. With the weather starting to warm up, the Jazz Bar is the perfect place to go.
