Each year the residents of St. Augustine celebrate their town’s birthday, dating back to 1565, when Pedro Menedenez de Aviles landed in Florida. He founded St. Augustine and declared it in the name of Spain and the Catholic Church. As this town celebrated its 448th birthday, re-enactors came together to tell the story of the fateful day Menendez set foot on land.
