Archaeologists unearth wells at planned academic building

By Joshua Santos | gargoyle@flagler.edu

During a recent dig on Cordova Street, St Augustine City Archaeologist Carl Halbirt found three old wells buried underneath the future site of Flagler College’s planned academic building, Pollard Hall.

Halbirt says one of the wells found will be kept by the college for the courtyard of the new building.

All the remaining found artifacts will be cleaned, bagged and classified by volunteers who then sort everything out at the Sue Middleton Archaeology Lab on West King Street.
