What’s Haute: Diary of a Flagler Fashionista

Flagler junior Chiara Cortesano is passionate about fashion. Every day, she wears an outfit that expresses her own individuality while looking chic and stylish.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the 20-year-old and got to know her style.

Jody Marich: What inspires you when you dress?

Chiara Cortesano: “Everything. It could be a movie I just saw, a magazine I just read, a song I just heard or even other people I see out. I take inspiration from everywhere and add my own touch.

JM: Where do you get your fashion sense from?

CC: “My parents. My mother is way more stylish than I could ever be. Half of the amazing pieces I have she found for me. I steal from her closet every time I am home. My father is from Italy and you can definitely tell by his style. They both have an appreciation for fashion which has rubbed off on me.”

JM: Who is your fashion icon?

CC: “This is a tough one. I would say between Margherita Missoni & Sienna Miller.”

JM: How would you describe your style?

CC: “I would describe my style as a duet between vintage, feminine, classic pieces & edgy, bold accents.”

JM: Where do you like to shop?

CC: ”I like to shop at The Closet, Goldfinch, American Apparel, Off Saks and a few thrift stores on the island when I am in Saint Augustine. I also like to shop online at Top Shop.”

JM: What is your fashion accessory you can’t live without?

CC: “ I cannot live without lip stick. I keep reserves of my favorite colors in case one runs down. I like soft shades of pink for all day and coral reds for night”

Finally came across this…interesting how a few select nameless individuals took the time out of their day to write these ‘very intelligent’ judgements on a girl who you know NOTHING about. I was asked to participate this by Jody, who is actually a kind and decent person just writing a fun segment. However her harmless little fashion story turned into a comment section that seems a lot more to me like “rumors on the bathroom wall”.

Hate to disappoint anyone but I, much like many of those I know….do not have an income nor do my parents have one that would support my spending “thousands of dollars for clothes.”

oh and regarding the “compound”, people like you make that an actual thing to be cared over bc my apartment upstairs here is where i live….

think what ever you want about me its besides the point…this is OUR school’s newspaper and it amazes me that adults can use a school publication forum to pointlessly, and anonymously bash another student. give me a break. i said i was INSPIRED by muses such as miller and missoni…in know way did i insinuate i had ANY similarity in them.

Get off the computer and go find people to talk about that you actually know, since you can’t help yourselves. have a good one.

She is known as ‘Bubblesquatch’ with my posse.

Her 20 year old narcissism is absolutely nauseating. She is the most rediculous person ever, and looks rediculous all the time. I tried to make it through reading her blog but I had to stop because I thought I was going to barf. Go away!!!

that last one sounded personal lol I loved her answers and this chick always looks fierce. Rock on girl!

  • alum28 says:

oh yes, the epitome of fashion. What the hell is she wearing? She’s a spoiled little snob who skates through classes on good looks and money. No one cares about the compound. No one cares about “The Compound” or seeing your cellulite ass out there tanning. And you are no Margherita Missoni or Sienna Miller, the things that make them classic are that they were iconic to designers who WANTED them to be in their clothes. This girl gets the clothes because her rich parents spend thousands of dollars on them.
and also, Ms. Marich, it would do you right to stop sucking up to these “glamazons” and featuring them in The Gargoyle, your own reputation is going nowhere fast.

last two comments sound quite bitter, but who knows if she is or not.

  • alum says:

That comment was fabulous! Aren’t all “fashionistas” superficial idiots? I think so.

  • An Alum 3 says:

I’ve had a class with this glamazon. She is the fiercest idiot on campus.
