New AD to brighten red and gold

A new era in Flagler College athletics will start with new Athletic Director Jud Damon, who brings more than a decade’s worth of experience to Flagler and is looking to make quality improvements.

“There are five areas I want to focus on: revenue production, scholarships, operating budgets, staffing and facilities,” Damon said.

Damon is familiar with Peach Belt schools, having served as the athletic director for Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville last year, and he expects Flagler to develop rivalries throughout the conference.

Damon also wants to improve the recruiting process by increasing Flagler’s exposure to larger pools of prospects. He said he’s always ready to welcome a prospective student athlete and his or her family.

“I like to be available to meet recruits and their parents if they have any questions,” Damon said.

Damon is Flagler’s eighth athletic director since the athletic program started in 1973.

From what he’s seen so far with Flagler’s athletic program, he says it has great potential.

“I’ve always been impressed with Flagler’s program,” Damon said. “There’s a great coaching staff; the work ethic seems strong and it’s pretty well supported by the student body.”
