A Georgia resident who was visiting St. Augustine said that the gun law is very similar to the ones in Georgia: “I don’t like it. An example is, what happens when people have a vehicle and they get upset and they have a gun available? Too many tempers, too much irrationality. People [are] not accountable and not responsible; I think guns should stay at home.”

The law applies only to permit-holders, and according to statistics this population is less likely than policemen to commit a violent crime. A businessman that is still worried should ask the legislature to except those businesses which provide gun lockers for employees. The businesses could allow access to the lockers only at the beginning and end of the work day -- thus eliminating any perceived problem with uncontrollable tempers.

As for a killer who had the patience to wait until the locker was opened, we're no longer talking about tempers -- we're talking about premeditated murder. Even with a ban, a premeditated worker could simply violate the ban on his chosen day -- it's not as if he hopes to keep his job after killing people. So no effective protection is lost.

"guns" are NOT registered in FL. No one needs to "register" their firearms like in some other states.

"guns" were ALREADY on many business property - before this law came into effect.

ONE out of EVERY 35 adults in FL has a "concealed carry permit. Think about how many "guns" ARE already on the "street" and yet... we do NOT have a wild west scenario. We do NOT have any MORE of the examples used by the GA resident to justify his or her position.

Business do HAVE control over who can have a "gun" on their property... by asking the individual to leave or BE charged with "armed trespassing" and this particular "law" (that you are writing about) is REALLY to protect the individual's "privacy rights" as it relates to what they can have in their OWN CAR.

THIS is in the Florida constitution: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and of the lawful authority of the state shall not be infringed, except that the manner of bearing arms may be regulated by law."

Self-defense right protected in FL: Alexander v. State (1984)... plus we have the Castle Doctrine and several others. We also have the Fl "10-20-Life" law which helped to drive down violent-gun crime rates by 30%.

To the Georgia resident, what makes you think all people are as irresponsible or irrational as you might be. All the gun owners I know are responsible, rational and accountable.
